Re: How to define an access policy to a role so that he can have only access to Print and View WTObject?

It's ok for them to print from Creo View?  If they have something like PDF reDirect installed they can create a PDF.  Then some people can convert it to other formats.

Re: Can we create a shortcut/hyperlink to start a new Change Notice (or a document) in Windchill?

Hi Jeff   Looks like a very useful feature, however action group is not available in our 11M020 dev instance.

Can we do 'Save As' on a Non-CAD document(.pdf, .doc) in windchill?

We can surely do Save As of Part and CAD document. When I try doing a Save As on pdf document, I get ' Error: Invalid object type for Save As'. Could anyone please tell me if there is a preference to allow Save As on Non-CAD documents.

You can use "cut" and "paste" to do the Save As for WTDocument

Good catch Ben.  I read the original message too fast and didn't notice the 10.2 vs 11.0.  You might be able to get away with different service packs, but definitely not different versions.

Thanks Vittorio,

I can 'Cut' and 'Paste', but this will not carry associations/link.

Thanks Bjorn,

Yes this feature will help avoid associations error and makes document template management easier.

Re: Update Query Builder Report - Windchill Shell

Hi Binesh,

I just have a quick follow up to this.

The command works as required but for some reason will not allow me to enter the username and password as part of the command.

When I usually run scripts in the Windchill shell it allows me to put the username and password into the command line and therefore doesn't prompt me for them after the command is run.

However with the above command - even if I enter the username and password in the same place in the command line (I've also tried various combinations for where to put the username and password) - it still prompts me for the username and password.

Do you have any idea what may be causing this or how I should enter the username and password into that command line?

Thanks for all your help!

Re: New Change Notice Workflow not being used

Well, a little more digging got me a little more information.

Under the old workflows, I have a Change Notice, a Change Task and a Mfg Change Task. Each one, when chosen, uses the correct workflow. Each one has its own Life Cycle Template.

The new workflows, which do have their own newly created Life Cycle Template, use the workflow associated with the old Life Cycle Template.

Now the problem becomes, how on earth did I get the workflows to correctly link to the appropriate Life Cycle Templates.

At the moment, Save-As and similar functionalities which appear in the workspace use CADx HTML Template Processing technology and not JCA...

CADx template processing as its name implies is very much CAD specific with many hardcoded specificities (That is why anything related to workspace UI is unsupported). So reusing it for WTDocuments is not really an option for the time being.

I'm pretty sure though that with supported APIs you could replicate the Save-As functionality for WTDocuments including "preserving" associations.

Manar El Ouataoui Thanks for your feedback. I know that we can do a customizing to implement such a feature. But as partner we do have a problem explaining the SMB customer, that they need to buy a feature to do a save as for a WTPart and a WTDocument. They're looking for a standard PDM System and not already customized one.

Action groups are available since 11.0F000. Unfortunately the examples are a little bit silly. You can activate the example with the site preference

Afterwards you have the actions available on your home page.

You need to write your own actions, otherwise you need to have the client customization always turned on.

Hi Bjorn,

Thank you for the reply.

Would you mind to share an example on how you have achieve that?

Why didn't you use a setup participants task? Resource pool is there OOTB.

For the variable I think this does not work. But did you try on participant tab to resolve the variable by a team template?

Most likely you need your own data utility.

This is exactly what the Resource Pool and Role Setup tabs in a workflow template Activity UI are for.

Select the Activity tab, Activity (drop down list) to be Setup Participants.

Then select on the Role Setup and Resource Pool tabs to arrange.

Reading the help on this is laborious, but playing with it for a bit allows you to get the hang of it quickly.  There are a lot of choices, so it's easy to get confused, so have to go slowly. If for example, you want to assign someone for the Design Engineer, and you select that Role (rather than Group), then it finds all in that Role in the context where the workflow is (which allows for a completely different set of Engineers for Product Context ABC vs. for Product Context DEF).

It's worth really getting to know how this works - exactly solves the problem you list above - very elegantly and nicely.

Retrieve Windchill role of a given user into ThingWorx

I need to retrieve some data from Windchill into ThingWorx. To begin with, am trying to fetch the Windchill role of a given user, into ThingWorx either using REST services or InfoEngine Tasks (webject xml). But the REST APIs found in Windchill documentation have less or no samples. Please help us.

Thanks

Oliver, Mike,

Thank you for the input, very appreciated.

Unfortunately the business wants to see a drop down, so the setup participant is not the right solution (even though is the best solution).

Just to give you more background info on this, we have team template at product level. They are exposed at change object creation (e.g. Change Notice) to be selected by the creator of the change object. This is how we resolve the roles in the team instance.

The idea is to have a drop of people grabbed from a certain role in the team instance of the change object.

Does anybody have an example on how to write this particular data utility?

Can still get a drop-down with setup participants - there's a bit of a trick to it.  I make a good living consulting on this stuff on the side
