Using publisher to create a PDF of drawing overlay?

$

Has anyone tried to configure the CAD workers so that they create PDFs of the Drawing Overlay functionality? Does anyone know if this is possible?

More specifically I am thinking it would be nice to capture this in a workflow that was kicked off as part of an engineering change workflow. The publisher would grab the affected and resulting drawings and create a PDF representation that shows the overlay.

How can I get the OOTB ACLs?

Greetings Windchill Gurus,

I have been working with a Windchill instance that was implemented long before I came on board.  There has been many changes made to the system from OOTB.  Now I am cleaning up all the Access Controls.

Can someone tell me if there is any documentation of the OOTB ACLs available?

Using Windchill 10.2 m030

Thanks in advance,

Cam

The majority of "OOTB ACL's"  are in product/library templates - so this leaves only a few at Site and Org to find.

Might be easiest to install Windchill (could be on a laptop) for OOTB reference - we always keep at least one OOTB install just for this purpose.

default Filter for Part Structure

Hi all,

Not all users want to see the filter "Type: Latest and with Design, Working". The windchill default is this setting.

There are often lot of users who are not interested in the Latest, but they will be interested in "Date Effectivity".

Can the default setting be set as  something other than Default, for example , can it be set to a Saved Filter that the admin has created, say " Date Effectivity".

The idea is not to force such users to perform extra clicks to reach the filter that he is interested in , say "Date effectivity".

I expected this to be a preference, or a property. Looks like its not.

Let me know how you have solved this usability blockade for light users, who may not know where to seek the correct filter.

Thanks!

Hari

Switched from Creo 2 to Creo 3 - now PTC_COMMON_NAME works differently?

Hi All,

I am wondering if you guys came across this issue:

We just switched to using Creo 3.  We were using Creo 2 with Windchill 10.2

Our start parts have these standard relations:

PART_NUMBER = rel_model_name()

PART_NAME = PTC_COMMON_NAME

PART_NUMBER and PART_NAME are designated parameters, and they are used in standard drawing's BOM tables.

Anyway, with Creo 2, when I renamed the CAD object in Windchill commonspace and downloaded this object to a workspace, then upon opening it and doing a regeneration, we'd get a warning about regenerating a read-only model.  Subsequently, when attempting to save it, the "checkout/continue/make read-only" dialog box would be shown.

Now, in Creo 3, sames scenario leads to the model regenerating without any notifications (which is kind of nice), and the model parameters are changed (silently).

However, if one does nothing else to this model, and tries to save it, then the system says "object not saved because it was not changed"  But that's obviously wrong, since the values of the PART_NUMBER and PART_NAME parameters have changed.

Moreover, one cannot check in these changes; the workaround seems to be to make a non-change to a model such as moving a feature in the model tree to a new spot and them moving it back to its old spot.

Is this the intended action?  On one hand, it kind of seems to work.  But I also seems wrong, and I will be looking at how this works with "as stored" drawings.

In the meantime, are there some settings in Creo 3 that I should know about and modify our standard configurations?

I prefer the Add Layer, Delete Layer to make a non-change. But I'm not surprised as the detection of what constitutes a change is not easy. Maybe they have determined to include only changes that the user interface has initiated.

Is there a way to stop wtparts being created by auto-associate based on name of the CAD document?

When we create designs of plastic injection moulded parts we model it as an assembly which contains the actual plastic part plus any inserts and/or paint with a naming convention similar to the image below

Moulded Part.JPG

Using the example above, auto-associate creates wtparts for MP123456.asm, MP123456_moulding.prt and the BP parts. We don't really need the wtpart for MP123456_moulding.prt. Is there a way to stop auto-associate from creating this wtpart using, for example the fact the number (mp123456_moulding.prt) contains an underscore or could an attribute be used to tell auto-associate not to create the wtpart?

Thanks in advance.

David.

ACL: What is the diffrent beween DynamicRole and RoleGroups?

Hi,

What is the different between a DynamicRole and RoleGroups in Windchill 11.0? Where can I find a documentation about the different group types?

Both are used in the Context Template xml (see snipped below). The ACLs are created with the UI.

... <AccessControlRule>    <domainName>/Default</domainName>    <externalTypeId>WCTYPE|wt.doc.WTDocument|priv.Domain.MyDocument</externalTypeId>    <lifecycleState>RELEASED</lifecycleState>    <WTPrincipalReference isInternal="true">      <groupName>DOCUMENT_MANAGEMENT</groupName>      <groupType>DynamicRole</groupType>    </WTPrincipalReference>    <grantPermissionSet><AccessPermissionSet>        <permissionField name="READ"></permissionField>        <permissionField name="REVISE"></permissionField>        <permissionField name="CHANGE_PERMISSIONS"></permissionField>        <permissionField name="DOWNLOAD"></permissionField>        <permissionField name="SET_STATE"></permissionField>      </AccessPermissionSet></grantPermissionSet>  </AccessControlRule>  <AccessControlRule>    <domainName>/Default</domainName>    <externalTypeId>WCTYPE|wt.doc.WTDocument|priv.Domain.MyDocument</externalTypeId>    <lifecycleState>RELEASED</lifecycleState>    <WTPrincipalReference isInternal="true">      <groupName>DOCUMENT_MANAGEMENT</groupName>      <groupType>roleGroups</groupType>    </WTPrincipalReference>    <grantPermissionSet><AccessPermissionSet>        <permissionField name="READ"></permissionField>        <permissionField name="CREATE"></permissionField>        <permissionField name="DOWNLOAD"></permissionField>        <permissionField name="SET_STATE"></permissionField>      </AccessPermissionSet></grantPermissionSet>  </AccessControlRule>
...

Thank you,

Tom

Representation From Windchill

I would like to take a representation of a drawing file which contains a image file with it. When i tried the representation is not showing the image files with it.

Can anyone will help me in finding out the solution for this

We have the config option save_objects set to changed_and_specified.  This means every time I hit save, Creo will save the model regardless of whether or not it thinks it needed to.  This is especially helpful for drawings where something changed on the model and is visibly different on the drawing the but the drawing itself doesn't detect that it changed.

What is ContextBasedAgreementType

Hi All,

Can anyone let me know what is ContextBasedAgreementType. I had encountered this element while i am trying to edit the securityLabelsConfiguration.xml file which is a part in creation of Agreements.

Is ContextBasedAgreementType a subtype of Agreement ? Can we find this is in Type and Attribute Manager Utility ? Or do we need to create a sub type of Agreement as ContextBasedAgreementType ? Can you please let me know about it.

Thanks and Regards,

Aditya Achanta

Hi David,

Not sure about basing it on the CAD Doc name but you can base it a CAD Doc attribute. See the Part Structure Override Attribute Name preference for more info.

It take a couple of additional clicks to get to the image files. Navigate to content tab, LMB on the representation, select save representation. use zip or jar, this will give you a zip file with image files in it.

Hi Cam,

If you search the Windchill Help Center for Context Policies you should see a section on Installed Site Context Policies.

Promotion Request ACL

I want to be able to have a Library Read only member  kick off the request to promote process.  Currently we have a library manger give the user the original file.  Once the edit is done the user gives it back to the library manager to upload to the system.  Then we want the user to be able to do the request to promote.  I have tried setting up the promotion notice and that did not work.  We are on WC 10.2 M020.

Thanks,

These Users need:

- Read for the data being promoted (CAD Doc's, WTDocs, WTParts)

- Create for PromotionNotice object type at Open state (assuming use of the OTB Promotion Request lifecycle); read for All states

note: Look also at your current setting for the preference: "Access Check for Promote"

How do I go back? I currently have a Part that has the end item attribute marked as Yes. I want to set it to No, but the pulldown is greyed out. Is there something els I need to do?

If the end item is marked as a primary end item, or if it is included in a change as affected end items, then this option is greyed out.
