Re: PDMEssentials - Link between part / assembly and drawing

The drawing will not iterate unless you open it and check it back in. The model changes will automatically propagate to the drawing when opened.

Download the drawing and the assembly/part will come with it. I do not download files to my workspace explicitly. I use File-Open in Creo, enter the drawing name and let Creo download the files it needs for the drawing. I may have these reversed, but my reasoning is: Open the file in Creo will download the latest version of all components. Download the file and by default, you get the As-Saved of the components. That can be a difference and may lead to errors. Always be sure you have the proper versions of the parts you are working on.

Revision is the assigned alpha/numeral.

Iteration is the automatically generated number after the revision.

Version is the Revision.Iteration.

How can I add pdf files to Windchill so our operations can view our production files?

We use Windchill's PDMLink for our Creo files, but we use a homegrown solution to publish PDF files for the rest of the organization's use.  We need to get rid of our homegrown solution due to our export controlled documentation doesn't meet specifications.  Any help is hugely appreciated.

thank you.

Multiple approaches can be used of course.

Where I used to work we did this:

- Publish all CAD to .plt format (Creo) or .dwg format (SolidWorks)

- Publish all MS Word to PDF (requires LiveCycle and additional license)

- Users access all via published thumbnails which launches CreoView

- Apply Windchill watermarking in CreoView, variable by state (e.g. PRELIMINARY, PROTOTYPE, RELEASED, etc.)

- Users create PDF's from Creo View (PDF of PDF for Word), including watermark, which provides traceability of every drawing / document outside Windchill to an exact search / version in Windchill.

We have a CAD worker that publishes all Creo jobs that are checked in. It also publishes all Creo files submitted for promotion.

We obtained LiveCycle, but then management decided the native MS Office files were good enough, so we never installed LiveCycle.

You can configure a CAD worker to post publish pdf's, dxf,s, etc. We do this here so every Creo Parametric Drawing is published with the "standard" hpgl viewable plus a pdf and a dxf. There are several previous posts dealing with post publishing. You can search for them by searching for post publish or post publishing.

Is there SQL-Query possible for viewing the (selected) choices in a variant specification (options&variants)

Hi Doug,

there are many posts on this forum related to this topic. It is a common issue when an organisation does not want to provide direct access to everyone.

There are 3rd party softwares approved by PTC that work as listener and pdf can be created (or deleted) outside of Winchill based on rules such as location, life states, type, file extensation etc....

I do not want to advertize any in particular and can also only talk about the one I have implemented for my organisation. msg me if you want..

Bottom line, is that your issue sounds a very easy to solve

While the ASSTOREDTOWCSTATUS table still exists, in 10.2 M030 EPMDocument.idA3C10 is mapped to EPMAsStoredConfig.idA2A2

Thank you for the reply
I used INTRALINK 3.4 and I was very free in file management.
PDMEssentials has much reduced my working speed.
and now I am not happy

Anyone know how to set Propagate Information as checked by default?

I have set the default for Change Tasks (Reviewer Required, or Obsolete).

Access control difference between org admin and wcadmin

Hi Fellow Windchillers,

Please let me know why the list of wnc products visible for an org.admin is different from wcadmin/siteadmin. What are the Policy Administrator-access control settings related to this?

Do know about this:

PDMLink 8.0 M030

Hi

I am building a utility to import BOM in customer format.

Requirement is:--

1. User will upload BOM in CSV format.

2. User can preview CSV in HTML and validate before uploading to windchill.

3. CSV wont be uploaded or lets say BOM wont be uploaded if there is any error in Line item.

4. Result of Upload Process should appear against CSV rows in HTML.

Please suggest.

Windchill based solutions for data management are slower than Pro/Intralink 3.x, however, they are capable of doing a lot more with the architecture of the program.

There is some overhead that the PDMEsentials and Intralink 8.x+ users pay in terms of performance, but if you decide to move up to full PDMLink, you can take advantage of those extras.

Filter End item (and related parts) from Promotion request collection

When doing a promotion request of a End item WT part in Windchill, is there a way to filter the other end items that are in the same BOM (along with their related components) from the collection?

As an example, I have the two following assemblies:

END ITEM 1, which contains:

     PART 1

     END ITEM 2

END ITEM 2, which contains:

     PART2

Is it possible to create a promotion request for END ITEM 1 which doesn't automatically collect END ITEM 2 and its components (in this case, PART 2)

Thank you

Read the documentation!

WCadmin is not explicitly added to the organization roles. You have to modify the roles of WCadmin to include the capabilities of OrgAdmin.

It may be one of these:

A) May not appear in "Recent" but will when selecting "View All" for Products/Libraries; will appears in "Recent" once entered.

B) The Org Admin / SIte Admin both have to have access to the Product/Library by being part of the context team. This is likely as the Manager Role with the  individual user mapped to it or thru a group mapped to the Manager Role.  You may have one or more context teams not set up to allow Admin to "see" the product/library even though they have access.  In this case, Search for the Product/Library and then edit the context team.  Easiest by far is to map an Org-level "Admin" group to the Manager Role of every Product/Library and add appropriates admin users to that group.

Also - OTB, the wcadmin account does not have an email address and is not a member of the Organization - have to explicitly edit the wcadmin account at Site Level.
