We also make this check (along with many others) via a custom validator implemented in with the new promotion wizard. Business rule would have added valued, but ultimately did not give us entirely what we needed.
You are right, the is no way to install Windchill in silent mode....
PTC, it will be nice to be able to script Windchill installation.
For the moment the workaround is to use the rehost utility from an existing installation. that makes the trick but a silent install will be more clean.
Greg,
Did you get an answer on loading the sample Options & Variants.
I am on 10.2 M030. Do I have any luck on getting the sample into the system??
Thanks,

need some idea/help in breaking up Windchill application in separate parts like you've mentioned.
Say probably 4 [Database , Apache , Flex , ldap].
I could only do it in two in docker.
I'm starting with something simple.
An Oracle image, based on the supported one by Oracle : GitHub - oracle/docker-images: Official source for Docker configurations, images, and examples of Dockerfiles for Oracle…
Then one for Windchill. When everything will be running smoothly my idea is to have 1 for Apache, 1 for Java, 1 for PSM, 1 for Cognos.
It's ongoing work.
Not being able to install Windchill silently will add overwork as we need to use rehost utility do to things in a supported way....
Hello,
I am trying to create a New Table View under Check-in object list window to add few filters and cleanup few columns as per my needs. But Table View Creation/Customization under Check-in module do not have "Set Filter" option. Need it badly to control the object list.
Can someone help me on this. I might be missing something or it could be any setting changes on the PDMLink side. Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Abhishek MR
I did not receive an answer.
Without much Java programming experience, how hard is it to implement the additional checks?
Are you willing to share the code?
There is an overview presentation here:
Managing Configurable Product Platforms
You can also find an overview in Help here:
Just polling to see what other companies do. We are looking to create somewhere where uses can request access to Products and have that routed to a certain role within the product (like a Product Manager). Sharepoint has a feature that if you are denied access, there is a button to email the owner and request access. Something similar to that or a process where by you can request access for multiple people (list). Our posture is to grant access only on a need to know basis. Does your company have this rolled into PDMLink or have you created an outside process to manage requests?
For inspiration....
We let nominated members of each team control who joins which roles.
My colleague created a nice customization whereby you click a button on quick links
This gives you a list of products (that you are allowed to know exist)
After selecting a product you get a list of roles on that particular product team (that you are allowed to request to be added to....ie no product manager)
Afterwards a workflow is triggered sending an approval task to the members of the dedicated "Team Admin" role on the affected product.
If/when approved, the requester is programmatically added to the requested roles.
Not had to lift a finger since... but this is not exactly OOTB
Before that we managed it through IT helpdesk calls, but very often the requests were ambiguous and required a follow up call.
It was almost impossible to get timely approval from existing team members so team changes were happening without engagement/involvement from stakeholders.
This method also ensures the requester is already an authenticated user, as setting up an account is another process.
Would you be interesting in sharing the code for this? Nailed my requirements exactly.
Can anyone explain what the Update Geometry button does and why it's there (other than to remove all visualization work when accidentally clicked by user). Lost about 20 annotations this morning - MFG dept is less than pleased. I opened a case with PTC and was told there is limited info on this subject and to file an enhancement request for improved documentation. WOW.
We want to a report in Intralink ( all file names, size and version). We tried to use QML and SQL Query to get this info but no luck. How can we get this report in Intralink ?
Thank you.
Thanks Bhagi and Jeff.....
Dear All... pl contribute if you have any other practical ppts to better understand O & V...
Can you give me the pros and cons of oracle versus sql server.
This will probably turn into a Ford vs. Chevy argument. In my opinion either one can be tuned to run and perform well. I think it's more about which are you more familiar with, which one is your IT department more comfortable supporting, and do you already own licensing for either vendor? One thing to keep in mind from a Windchill perspective, PTC provides a tool to migrate from Oracle to SQL Server. They do not provide any tool to go the other direction.
hmm, well, I am surprised because it would seem pretty obvious to track that parameter values have been changed...
I am regenerating the part, and afterwards I open its "Parameters" window and I see the values have changed.
So the issue is that the part should be flagged as "changed" but it isn't.
Anyway, it worked properly in Creo 2 and now in Creo 3 it doesn't. I'm wondering if it's the same for others.
I think I'll open a support case with PTC and let you know what they tell me.
