Re: is Windchill Quality Solutions 10.0 compatible with Windows 10?

Hi, Tom

Thank you very much for your comments. Sorry I took a long time to come back to reply.

In fact, Windchill Quality Solutions seems to be a special package of tools focused on Reliability, Availability design and related issues, with separate updating from Windchill PDMLink and ProjectLink.

Meanwhile I got excellent support from Mr. Saad Zdazi, such I can report here to those that have the same question.

PTC plans to release the update M010 to WQS 11.0 to work on Windows 10, and this release is scheduled to August 2017.

Thanks for your reply, in my wt.properties:

wt.server.codebase=$(wt.webserver.protocol)\://$(wt.rmi.server.hostname)/$(wt.webapp.name)

How can I solve this problem? The attachment is my wt.properties.

The KDB Search accessible through the eSupport Portal is a superset of knowledge sources including Reference Docs and the Windchill Help Centers within it. It should also provide some details in the results regarding what version these and if this is not clear enough, then also in the hover-over windows that pops up on the right. The Help Centers and the eSupport KDB Search tools also employ different search technologies currently and are likely to give slightly differently sorted results for the same Help Center Topic content.

I do agree that the Reference Document PDF sorting rules are not perfect (and this feedback through the tools would be useful) but returning an entire 200+ page document that contains your search string is not so useful and I would tend to filter out Reference Docs from this list and concentrate on the Help Center topic hits that by their nature, will be a closer match to your search.

Hi all,

When I looked into the documentation on how to use multi owner link, I feel that it will be a nightmare for the users (who are not experts).

Is it worth? is a question that I like to ask,

Have companies started adopting this?

Some questions.,

Case 1:

Parent CAD Assy is not having 1:N relation to part.
But Child CAD part is having 1:N relation to part

In this case, will there be 1 Parent WTPart or many?

Case 2:

How will the colour of the resulting part structure - visualization adapt?

That is, how can we transfer the resulting part structure to have a colour representation based on the child parts.

Here Iam talking about using multi owner for parts that vary in colour only.

WIll visualization be adjusted to reflect the correct colour? (Based on attributes!)

Awaiting your valuable experiences!

Best Regards

Hari

PTC Solution Installer 10.2 M020-CPS15 no option to Update Existing Installation

Hello

I am running Windchill PDM Link 10.2 Datecode M020-CPS02.

I am trying to update with CSPs and running the PTC solution installer . I have followed the pre install steps as outlined in the guides, but when I get to the options screen, the option to "Update Existing Installation" is greyed out. The PTC services are stopped and windchill server and backgroun method servers are off.

There is no MAC OS based server side code for Windchill.

You should be able to run the Windchill client in a web browser on a MAC.

If you're using basic authentication, then there is no way to log out. This is a limitation of HTTP Basic Authentication.

However, as of 10.1, Windchill also supports form based authentication. If you configure Windchill for form based authentication, then you have the ability to log out of Windchill. See CS34749 for more information.

There is no Creo View client for MAC so you won't be able to view the viewables.

All of your properties look correct to me.

I tried running your Test class on my system (after changing the url to the url of my system) and I got the same issue as you. So, I looked through the code that is constructing this incorrect wt.properties URL, and I found that the issue is with the java.net.URL class. The way the wt.properties URL is generated is by using the below constructor:

new URL(<serverUrl>,"wt.properties")

This should append 'wt.properties' to the end of the server URL. But, what I've found is that if the server URL does not include a trailing slash, then the URL constructor will replace the path in the server URL with "wt.properties", resulting in the incorrect url. But, if you put a trailing slash at the end of your server URL, it correctly appends 'wt.properties' to the end of the server URL. So, try updating your Test class to use a trailing slash at the end of the server URL, and let us know if you still get the same error.

This is possible, but CREO cache could be corrupted without local distinct cache folders per user id.  The issue resorts from the user ID being hard coded in several spot in local cache.

I also know the browser used underneath can add additional querks to this.  For example to have more then one active session for Internet Explorer, you have to be able to use File->New Session vs. New Tab or New Window.  This behavior is tied to running standalone IE browsers, but also if running standalone concurrently, Windows' systems will bind session concurrently unless New Session used.

Mitch, what I recommend below is not supported by PTC, always try on a cloned sandbox or backup Training in full first.

The problem you face is not all that different to how divestures are managed.

The best route to handle this is:

LDIF syncronization

Database synchronization  (presume you know how to use SQL to isolate differences)

Absent those skills required to achieve the above, find someone in company who can help in that capacity. On overlap, it mainly is ensuring per database table entries, ensuring no overlap in the ID2A2 or derived from foreign key columns. A good DBA can do this very quickly and easily.Othern column names, this is really a generic task and not speciifc to Windchill.  I use it all time in data migrations. Classname and numeric ids make this quite easy and WinDU capitalizes on it or had in the past..

On new systems:

Proper change ad configuration management, deploy users people subsection as LDIF file, not full LDIF file; disallow product, library and project team administration by end users.  Place groups in each role instead.  Promote configuration from server to server in a less manual if not completely automated fashion.

Before any data is added, create "Z" tables as duplicates of fresh system.  Copy all tables as duplicates appending a letter Z to the front so as to make them appear after all real tables, and always have them as a backup to revert to.

I also always did this for testing PartsLink implementations and being able to rollback system without loss of any other functionality. Being a programmer to know the relevant database tables is useful.  Not supported by PTC of course.

On existing systems:

I almost guarantee, most users on the community forum have never done suggestions that follow.  It's not difficult, just out-of-box thinking. Even PTC internally is likely not used. An opportunity to share - grin.

Synchronize unique user/role/group configurations. Where training server users are unique, for them to a new repository defined in WindchillDS.  This is challenging for average folks, but is extremely secure, as the accounts are inaccessible on production if the repository is inaccessible from your Apache, IIS, Nginx, or other http web server. Keep in mind, method server sees them as normal users.

After synchronization, migrate to strategy advised above under new systems. , Ensure all users, groups, organizations, and other settings, are maintained on both servers.  Make passwords different. Create users first in Windchill DS, then link in Corporate directory. This of course, can be an issue depending on user quantity.  If that is an issue, feel free to reply and let us know.

Now users can be disabled/deactivated, you could just port over the UNION of the WTUser(s) where there are no problem ensuring in database comparison differences, the key references for equitable rows in other database tables are connected.

A reverse rehost of training to production, IF production has not gone live.   If it has gone live, do not rehost, edit the training servers' (all) reference to not resolve to production IP addresses for production hostnames.  Clone production. Copy to training.  Access by end users for the moment requires a similar procedure on laptops, tablets, workstations, etc. You can even make prodution file vaults read only and keep them connected in training, test, etc. without duplicating content. New content going to a system specific vault. Isolates deltas in content. React and manage as needful.

I am not sure if you are a programmer or have operating system scripting knowledge, but that makes life easier.  For example, I export LDIF from LDAP for ou=people and convert to user and group load file format if LDIF import is directly shunned. Like users of the BIF have challenges.

The training server and / or sandbox methodservers and other servers ideally should be offline in cases. Clearing all caches is a good idea. While systems are running, clearing principal cache or not caching at all.

I have been around the block on this MANY times.  Not supported but very effective.

Time to complete improves per execution and the first time is data quantity delta specific.

Reply if questions or contact me directly through here if I happen to get busy and forget about the posting reply. It happens.

doc2pv.exe crashes when publishing

Hi All,

I've set up the office worker on a separate server using the Adobe Experience Manager. The Worker Daemon is started from a CMD Window and not set as a service.

While publishing the doc2pv.exe application crashes.

Details: Windchill 10.2

            Creo View Adapters 3.0

            Adobe Experience Manager 6

The application crashes while publishing an Excel Doc (see attachment) . For Word the job fails directly with the following error:

17.08.2016 09:55:39:Failed to publish document file "D:/FTP/worker/w1i1j6/test.docx" to "D:/FTP/worker/w1i1j6/test_docx.pdf"

I added the trailing slash, error of " java.io.FileNotFoundException: http://whichen-ws01.cisco.com/wt.properties" disappeared. Thanks a lot.

But a new error come out:

1.7.0_72-b14

login succeed!

Exception in thread "main" wt.util.WTRemoteException: Unable to invoke remote method; nested exception is:

java.rmi.ServerError: Server exception; nested exception is:

  java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: com/cisco/whichen/Test : Unsupported major.minor version 52.0

  at wt.method.RemoteMethodServer.invoke(RemoteMethodServer.java:814)

  at com.cisco.whichen.Test.main(Test.java:46)

Caused by: java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: com/cisco/whichen/Test : Unsupported major.minor version 52.0

  ... 2 more

By google it, it's means my build path and compiler use different JAVA version. But I checked my Build Path and JAVA Compiler are both 1.7.

Tomcat also use JVM 1.7. I don't why this error will appear. Please help.

Gary,

I concur with David. Rather it would be good if have guides in reader friendly formats and also retain the PDFs.

I like to use PDF manuals

They are more usable than the paper version because of the search and the the copy/paste capabilities.

You can view them offline and the way the information is organized helps you navigate through them.

I go some times in the Help Center because I found that there are sometimes more explanations or examples that I don't find in the Guides.

But navigating the Help Center is more difficult than doing the same in a PDF guide.

Automated Regression Testing

Hello,

I'm new to both Windchill and software testing.  My team is looking to automate our regression testing for our Windchill point releases.  I'm currently researching tools to use, and I'm leaning towards Selenium, but I wanted to reach out to the Windchill community before making a final decision.  If you've automated regression testing, what tools did you use?  What were their pros and cons?

Tim,

I only encounter this when i use rehosted Windchill server.

Copy the below file from Production or any other Windchill server before PSI installation. This normally resides in Windchill installation user profile.

C:\Users\windchillinstalluser\AppData\Roaming\PTC\Windchill\psi_iir_index.xml"

hi SvenR,

I tried to do this in our Windchill 10.2 M030 (w/ Creo 3.0). But for some reason, system is ignoring the # of allowed errors set and always failed to check in a model file due to ModelCheck errors.

Conditions: "ModelCHECK Validation" is ON, "ModelCHECK Number of Errors" is 100

When checking in a model with 2 errors, it's blocked

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Windchill Webserver IP update and Domain update?

$

Hi everyone,

I'm going to be in the process of updating the internal IP,external IP(For Webserver), and Domain for our Windchill environment. I need to know the best method to go about this since this is all I'm changing.

How to make changes reflect IIS\APACHE so I can host on the internet?

How to make changes for other dependencies so I don't run into any major issues?

Thanks!
