From a database perspective I'm struggling with this. I'm almost positive the as-stored information is created in the associated table every time something is checked in. The only way I can imagine this happening is if you physically deleted everything else from your workspace prior to checking in (and even that will throw an error.) Are you saying that when you try to add this drawing to a workspace that the "as-stored" option is not even listed? If yes, any idea what is causing this condition?
Re: Published drawings using the wrong version of the model
Re: Published drawings using the wrong version of the model
The As Stored is there. What I am saying is from a search results window I check the box for the drawing only. Then I select Add to Workspace.
I go to the Advanced tab and there is a drawing, a part model and a drawing format listed.
When I change it to As Stored the only thing listed is that drawing. No drawing format and no model.
Re: URL links
It seems like that is not possible. Instead it is an end-user training thing. Need to middle-click on the link. Then it will open in a new tab. Just basic browser management. Can't force it using Windchill bookmarks (aka links today).
Re: Published drawings using the wrong version of the model
Re: Published drawings using the wrong version of the model
Yes. Only the drawing. These files were imported from Intralink so it could be related to that.
Re: Published drawings using the wrong version of the model
Ah, that makes sense then. Windchill legitimately has no idea what version of the dependent is required. Does checking or not checking this box have any impact on what gets added to the workspace? (I'm assuming dependents is set to 'required'.)
Yes, it would be nice if the revisions could automatically align on the fly when adding to the workspace but I imagine there are plenty of companies that don't require the revisions of their models and drawings to be kept in sync, in which case this wouldn't work.
Re: Windchill subscriptions
Wow - both of these work nicely. But explicitly not supported (in 10.2 and 11.0), so very hesitant to use.
Re: How to use Windchill's Spreadsheet Upload to attach Describe_By and Referenced_By Document numbers to a Part
I found a bug when updating some parts, that I had to include the MfrName despite that the part numbers were unique to each Mfr. Just provide the Mfr name or leave it blank.

Re: Issues with Windchill DTI stability?
DTI is unstable. The latest experience here is with the "language" setting in Internet Explorer..still don't have it resolved but we are blaming the Tuesday patch updates. Always seems like the best solution is to uninstall DTI and then reinstall. When installing make sure no Office or PTC products are running in the task manager. Wish default OOTB settings from Windchill preferences and DTI settings would work...still feels like we are fine tuning them thru trial and error to get DTI to work.
SQL Server Upgrade Question
I'm on my Windchill upgrade journey from 10.2 to 11.0. Currently we are on SQL Server 2008 SP1. Our goal is to get to SQL Server 2016.
I'm thinking about taking the general steps below to get there.
- Upgrade from 2008 to 2012 in 10.2 environment
- On database server for 11.0, install SQL 2016
- Upgrade from 10.2 SQL 2012 to 11.0 SQL 2016
I was wondering if anyone else has taken the this journey? How did you do it? It doesn't have to be to 2016, but that would be helpful. Trying to get this all done before October.
Thank you,
Brian
Re: SQL Server Upgrade Question
Yes, that is the approach I would take. You have to install and run the collation conversion utility in order to switch to 2012 and there is no point dragging that into your new 11.0 environment. I would definitely jump to 2012 before jumping to 11.0.
When I have to select New promotion request in Windchill?
When I have to select New promotion request in Windchill?
Re: When I have to select New promotion request in Windchill?
Can you explain a little more of what you need? You can use it after you select a file at any time but it depends on what you are trying to do.
You use a promotion request to get files from one state to another instead of manually setting the state. One advantage is it allows a note to be added to why you are promoting the file.
Re: When I have to select New promotion request in Windchill?
It also allows your files to routed to other people for review before the promotion, set state, is finalized.
Re: When I have to select New promotion request in Windchill?
Help Center has pretty well documented material on Promotion Processes, Of course the default ones. It is worth a read. - http://support.ptc.com/cs/help/windchill_hc/wc110_hc/index.jspx?id=LCChp_PromotionProcess&action=show
Re: When I have to select New promotion request in Windchill?
I think Praveen Minumula ask : When I must create New promotion request in Windchill?
In Windchill many wais change from one state to another (Set State, Promoting etc..), but only Promoting can change state for specific baseline of objects (WTPart, EPMDocument, WTDocument etc.)
Hiding subfolders with no content
I am very new to Windchill but familiar with other PDM software. We have a relatively "nested" standard folder structure for projects in order to capture all possible aspects of a typical construction project. Many of the subfolders are empty, which makes browsing for files and searching for old information very cumbersome.
Ideally, I think the folder structure should change to something with fewer child folders, but that is a long-term goal I have that will take some time/convincing.
Is there a way to 'hide' folders/subfolders that have no objects inside to make browsing in the table view easier? I see that one can create custom table views, but I don't see that file size or number of objects inside a folder is really an attribute/criteria that can be set to filter out.
Any suggestions/advice is appreciated.
Thanks!
Colin
Re: Published drawings using the wrong version of the model
It seems like your data wasn't properly migrated from Intralink. I just took a look at some of our old drawings and the as-stored relationships are correct. We migrated from Intralink to Windchill back in 2011 and from what I can tell, all of these relationships were preserved.
Re: Need to select a Reliable Windchill version
Hi Binesh,
Do you know if there is any Data Validation tool to make sure the consistency of the data after migration?
Re: Need to select a Reliable Windchill version
Hi Jerry,
I would strongly recommended running WinDu. As this will report any obvious database integrity issues. As for the accuracy of the data, most followed approach is to take a sample size from the population and perform validation against it. The sample size depends on population size, confidence target and confidenxe interval. Certain type of businesses are regulated, has to be within certain confidence range. There are some online calculators available for this
