Ben Loosli a écrit:

In 10+ years of working with Windchill, I have never had a corrupt workspace.

Hey Ben you don't push Windchill to the limits, hurry up!  haha

Well, maybe I'm doing something wrong but I don't know what.

As usual I often switch from a workspace to another in a day...it might be wrong

But what I'm sure:

- I accessed to this workspace maybe 15 times during the study without any problem, shutting down the computer every night.

- I didn't have any error message about check in because I didn't checked in (well...yes, it's bad)

- I didn't tried to remove anything of that workspace. No export or any fancy thing.

I can only see that this morning my workspace looks like I've not worked during the last week.

Marco:

I've tried the recovery utility without success. I can recover only a few files and nothing useful.

Anyway, I'll keep it close to me and share with my co-workers for any further use. Thanks

Thank you guys. I think I have to rebuild all that stuff but I wouldn't be so confident and check in a little more often

I have dealt with a fair number of workspace corruptions in our company and usually that also means that the workspace can't be accessed at all from Creo (fatal error or server unavailable or other error). I can't recall a time when a corrupt workspace reverted back to the original unchanged files (at least not the whole workspace).

I see that you weren't checking in your file changes, but were you at least uploading them to the server workspace?

This problem sounds more like what would happen if your local cache had been deleted and Creo was rebuilding it from scratch based on the server workspace contents. May need to take a look at the dates on some of the files and folders in your local cache location. You should see some dates corresponding to the last time that you worked on the files.

Re: If a part is used in multiple assemblies if the part has to be revised then the related assemblies are to be revised

This is the classic case - how far up do you incorporate changes?

For development, in general people do not Rev the where-used objects.

After Release, the general rule is that if Rev B and Rev A parts cannot be placed into the same bin on the production floor, then rather than Revise, one needs to create a new Part Number and manage it's use in the next higher assembly; with a similar consideration at all higher levels.

How do you relate Technical Data Package (TDP) to Part (Material) in SAP?

$

We use Technical Data Packages (TDP) in Windchill to collect all the required information about a part into one revision controlled object that we approve for a purpose, i.e. as a purchase specification to send to a supplier.  We would like to use ESI to publish the TDP to SAP and link it as a document, so that procurement can pull this into the SAP Purchasing Object (RFQ/PR/PO), and the supplier and receiving inspection, etc. are all on the same page about the relevant specs for the order.  However, ESI does not, as far as I can tell, have the ability to publish a TDP based on their links to a part (e.g. to originally selected objects, i.e. the part we're publishing).

Has anyone implemented similar functionality, and if so, how did you go about it?

We're considering putting a robot on the TDP approval routing that will create/revise a document that we can link to the part or enterprise data.  This document would have the same number and revision as the TDP with URL content linking to the TDP info page.  We would then publish this document when we published the part.

Any better ideas?

Thanks,

Casey

Anyone working with Windchill ESI want to meetup at Liveworx 2017?

I'm not aware of any targeted activities for ESI users.  Would anyone be interested in a casual meet and greet to share ideas, lessons learned, contact info, etc?

Thanks,

Thanks for the Reply Mike

I Totally agree with u.

This was a rare case if that happens and the part that was changed has to be affected in both assemblies then what should i do,

And is there any option to collect the objects where the part is used.

When i revise the part to REV B i want my assembly to be revise to same revision of REV B even for single assembly, can this be done ?

Tom,

I know it says that in the manual, but as is often the case the manuals can be misleading when the author, or reader (or both) fall into the trap of using a logical fallacy, eg. just because something is true it doesn't mean it is the whole truth, and similarly the apparent converse of what is stated as true isn't always not true !.

I was told by someone working in PTC's 2nd line support (or R&D), "the download delegate may actually be triggered by some actions other than download". To get the updated information to show in session is another matter - sometimes it just happens, sometimes (in Creo) you need to do an Update - so we built a macro to do this in one click, and as I said in SolidWorks WGM it updates these attributes in session if you save twice - so we built a macro that saves twice !

What I described is what we had working in v10.0 and still have in v10.2, and I don't think it is affected by the introduction of "universal upload" in v10.2 and the consequential changes (or fixes) to the behaviour of re-add to Workspace as described pretty well in CS 172371.  We see advantages to using upload upon save and no disadvantages.

I am happy that this works very well for MCAD, but it doesn't help at all with updating and displaying title block information on ECAD drawings as those applications (Mentor Graphics or Creo Schematics) don't appear to have any Attributes/File-Properties/Parameters that can be mapped to Windchill.  This is the problem I am trying to address, and would welcome any suggestions for how to do so, either in the native files or in the PDF files - which could either be copies of drawings, or distribution records with file attachments (eg, Gerber files).

Nick

PS.  added note 21-May-2017:

Our custom Approval Workflow sets the value of our three Change Note related Attributes, and adds these Attributes to the CAD Doc if they are missing.  As long as the drawing format has the parametrised text field(s), then the value amended by the Workflow should appear during file-sync'd republishing by the cadworker, or at least it does in our system.  Hence the name of the Approver gets shown on the drawing, and for good measure we show this for both the 3D model file and the 2D drawing file.

I am very happy to say that we've got the PDF over-stamping facility we need for ECAD PDFs working, thanks to a very nice new App from Wincom called Stamper - see : https://webapps.wincom-cloud.net/wincom-app-center/#!

This utility can be configured with templates for different sheet sizes and orientations, eg. A4, A3, A2, etc... to create rectangles of particular size & position (defined precisiely in millimeters) with black outlines and white backgrounds, containing pararametrised text that can be linked to system Attributes or Global Attributes (IBAs), and thus show the latest information on the PDFs when they are downloaded or opened from Windchill.  The App can be configured to be trigger the over-stamping by check-in and promotion events, but it is also possible to do so from a workflow robot.

There are some filters available to define which CAD Doc types (eg. ECAD Docs) , Attachment file types (eg. PDFs), and authoring applications (eg. Mentor Expedition) should be stamped and all the others types such as MCAD files (where the PDFs are typically stored as Representations rather than Attachments) are ignored.  Perfect !

The net result is that we can now show all the correct version, lifecycle state, and approval information we need on our PDF copies of drawings made by any ECAD application working with Windchill (including Creo Schematics !), as long as the drawing template in ECAD is setup to match the Wincom stamping template for the corresponding sheet size and orientation - and this should also work for multi-sheet PDFs of different sheet sizes, but I have yet to test this aspect.

If you are interestd in doing the same for your ECAD PDFs then please contact Simon at Wincom.  I belive he is at the event in Boston this week, on the Tristar stand.

With many thanks to all at Wincom,

Nick

Hi Binesh,

Good day!

Just want to make sure that your suggestion of "I don't think it is not a great idea to do go to 10.2 now." means that you think it is a great idea to go with 10.2, right?

Our company had a long history of using Windchill/Creo, after many times of split-merge, it now ends up 2 separate Windchill/Creo at 2 major sites.  US Site is using Windchill 9.1 M070 with Creo 2.0 M120, Europe Site is using Windchill 10.1  with Creo 2.0 M050, and we want to merge these 2 Windchill to One System, that means we will also need to merge all the File Vaults and DBs, at this stage we are not sure if this is possible to be achieved.

Here are the particular areas that are unknown and challenging:

1. The migration path: Windchill 9.1(Windows) to Windchill 10.2(Linux) or 11 (thank you for the info: https://www.ptcusercommunity.com/message/476126?et=watches.email.thread#476126)

2. Migration steps: Migrate Windchill 9.1 first and then Merge Windchill 10.1 or vice versa

3. DB conflicts during merging [US DB and Europe DB]

4. File vaults conflict during merging [US File vaults(180G)and Europe File Vaults(300G)]

5. LDAP (US Windchill using Local and Europe Windchill using company LDAP server)

Re: Collation conversion utility

Hello Sergey,

While installing the windchill 11, It has prompted to create a database user; I have created user A. Then, while restoring my old backup to sql 2014, users over-wrote. So the user A deleted from sql server database, (which is associated with windchill). I have only old users (as I had in sql 2008). But in db.properties file, the dbuser is marked as the user 'A'.

While running the collation conversion utility, which user I have to enter and what I have to change here ?

Thank you John.

It sounds plausible. As I said I didn't upload my work on the server side at all. I know it's bad. :/

I am sorry for the typo, I can't edit my response what I meant is - "I don't think it is a great idea to do go to 10.2 now."

Looks like a good use case for using Bulk Migrator. Did you look a that?

in Classification search,I found that two different class in different structure with same name, is this recommended?

duplicate names, to my knowledge we shouldn’t have, might be chances of causing problem when we classify the parts. Please advice.

Ok, now I may have an explanation:

A few days ago , I've used a common login with administration rights to change manually some status on a few prts.

To use that login I opened an windchill session on IE to be clear an not make any mistake under my common session.

I once had a message when I opened Creo again saying something like:

"The server side cache owner is 1. Continuing with the session 2 is not recommended"

( 1 is my common login, and 2 is the admin login)

err_windchill.png

A co-worker just had the same issue (And is also as green as hulk now ), that's how I had the screenshot.

So I think we now know what we have to do.

Thank-you again.

Hope it may help any body

The display name of classification node can be same.

The internal name  of classification node must be unique.

Guest roles displayed on Add Members on CR Process tab?

Anyone know how to hide or remove this?

At Submit CR, the Participants tab only shows the Roles that are in the change team and they can only see the roles that are displayed in the workflow task. I do not use "guest" in the workflow.

But, if someone selects the Change Request and then the Process tab, they can see the Add Members icon. Once selected, Guest is listed as an option?

CR Process.jpg

Roles from Process.jpg

Guest is a Role in the Context Team (and can't be removed).

As you can see, the Guest role is not displayed on the Set Up Participants action.
