Windchill CPS - Install on the database server???

$

I saw this article come through from tech support recently:  CS248141 (link is currently dead)

I pushed back on support and said, "This makes absolutely no sense. The CPS is installed on the Windchill (application) server. There is nothing to install on the database server..."

Here is the reply I received back:  "This article was created with reference to a case where a customer has a mismatch between their Windchill version and database version. Their Windchill version was 10.2 M030 CPS 14 and they were using Database of the version 10.2 M030 CPS 19. With every new MOR updates or CPS updates changes are deployed in Windchill codes and Database as well. Hence, it’s always recommended to use Windchill and database of the supported versions."

I'm completely confused. How does one install a CPS on the database server???  For external database servers, the PSI can be used to create the database schema during initial installation, but even that is optional.  (PTC provides instructions on how to do this manually.)  Am I completely missing something?  Are the critical patch sets supposed to be deployed on the database server, separate from installation on the application server?  I was under the impression that installing a CPS from the application server did update the database.

PTC might have done fixing all the bugs in their products and now started fixing Oracle bugs too. Lol

You can set revision if the preference allow override revisions is set to true. Could you explain your requirement a bit more ?

Does WindchillDS support password history & aging?

I did a quick search of PTC's knowledge base and the community and didn't find anything.

David,

I think if you turn on password verification, there are settings for history, length, types of characters, etc...

For example our passwords have to meet the following:

• 8 characters or more in length

• Contain at least one UPPERCASE letter:  ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ

• Contain at least one lowercase letter:  abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz

• Contain at least one numeral:  123456789

• Contain at least one special character:  !@#$%^&*()_+=[]\;’,./{}|:”<>?

We have our history set to saving the last 5 passwords, after that they can be reused.  This setting is user configurable.

I did experiment with password aging, for example having passwords expire after 90 days, but was unable to get it to work.

If I remember correctly, you have to do this all inside the admin tool for the WindchillDS, which is completely separate from the other Windchill admin tools.

Re: What is an IBA?

Hi Joseph Francis,

IBA stands for Instance Based Attributes. As its name indicates, they are Instance based.

By mean of Instance based - they are defined on particular object type (WTPart, WTDocument, etc). For example if you look at Name, Number, they are available for all object types. We call them as Modelled objects.

Instead, IBA can be defined on either WTPart, WTDocument, etc.. they are specific for those types. Additionally, you can also define IBA for soft types too. It means you can define attribute say IBA_1 specific to soft type to softtype_1.

I hope this helps you.

Shirish

Security Labels Command line tool question

I am running 10.2 M020.  When I try to run the command java wt.access.UpdateSecurityLabels -inputFilePath="F:\doc_security_set.xlsx" -allVersions It ask me to login in.  I have tried my wcadmin account, my admin account and my personal account who is also a site admin.  I receive the Error: Unable to connect to the Windchill server. Contact your administrator to

start Windchill before you retry.  Windchill is up and running fine.  I have verified that all these accounts belong to the site admin group.  The install guide says to set this property

wt.access.UpdateSecurityLabels.authorizedParticipant or it defaults to the Site Admin group.  Has anyone else ran into this problem.

Can the relationship explorer be used to set up a visualization for referenced work instructinos?

We'd like to have some dynamic visualization for our process docs and work instructions by building it into the Structure and then be able to see the relationships in the Relationship Explorer?  Does the Structure Tab, and by extention the Relationship Explorer, only support parent/child relationships or can it represent references/referenced relationships as well?

Is there a better way to get a visual representation of our Manual / Process / Work Instruction relationships?

Thanks for your feedback

Do you see any error in Method Server or Server Manager logs?

Alias Attribute Mapping

I have been researching the ability to populate a WTpart with all sorts of attributes and then link documents to that WT using a described by link.  The end goal is to have these attributes show in many WTdocs without having to retype enteries (example: serial number, description, sales order, etc)  I can get the Help example: "describedBy@wt.part.WTPartDescribeLink~describes^wt.part.WTPart~name" to work perfectly....but when I try other attributes, like ones I have created, it will not fetch the information and display in the wtdoc.  What an I doing wrong?  I reached out to Tech Support on Monday, still waiting to hear anything from them.

Would I be correct in assuming that in this scenario, the administrator (wcadmin) would still have full access (not restricted to read/download)?

I had a copy of MED-60744-CD-102 from a previous install.  Not the best answer but that is how I got around this.

Using Windchill 10.2

I used to be able to print the FTA diagrams with many different options.

I had to re-install the client on a new PC and now I don't see the print options anymore.

I there some server or license access that I am missing.

I don't see any of the standard print "forms" anymore.

Pass argument to custom CAD worker

$

Hi all,

I am looking for a way to pass an additional argument to my custom worker. The main task that I want to achieve is to create a different output format based on user publishing params (Output Options). I uploaded an publishing rule xml containing two param-set

<param-set name="Create PDF">      <worker name="type">pdf</worker>  </param-set>  <param-set name="Create X_T">      <worker name="type">x_t</worker>  </param-set>  <publish on="create-representation" param-set="Create PDF"/>  <publish on="create-representation" param-set="Create X_T"/>

Now the user has the ablity to select between the two publishing options. On the worker machine (separate windows machine with worker daemon and generic worker) I would like to somehow get the "type" worker argument and pass it to the batch, or write it to the .in file. How could I achieve this?

Thx,

Tamás

Is there a way to upload a locally created viewable into the content/representation section of an epmdocument?
