Re: Timestamps in MethodServer Log Files

Jess,

I'll give you an example, and then perhaps you can let me know of a better way of handling it.

I have created a custom jsp page in $WT_HOME/codebase/netmarkets/jsp/Custom/.  I have also added a link to that JSP page in the "Quick Links" drop down menu of Windchill.  But I would like to know when and how often users are actually hitting that JSP page (clicking that link in the "Quick Links" drop down menu).  Therefore, in the coding for the JSP page, I write the event (date/username for example) to a separate log file (/home/ptc/QuickLinks.log, for example).

The advantage of this is that I will always be able to see that file in that location.  Also, if I print it to the MS instead, it will be lost after 15 days as Windchill archives the log files.  In addition, the printed line will be in many different actual log files.  They are not all contained in one file.

The disadvantage of this, of course, is my difficulty with the timestamp that I am discussing here.

So do you have a suggestion on how improve my capture this click event in 1 easy-to-read file that is not automatically deleted or archived?

Hello,

What can I find the Workgroup manager? How can I tell that it's been installed?

Thanks,

Typo on the previous post. The question should read,  Where can I find the workgroup manager?

Thanks,

The workgroup manager needs to be installed on your Windchill server.  Can verify using Quick Links, Help, About Windchill.

Each workstation also needs workgroup manager client installed.  Can verify under Start, Programs.  Shows as "Windchill Workgroup Manager."

Generally need to register SolidWorks or another CAD tool from the client.

Did you try clearing/renaming the local cache - C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\PTC\ProENGINEER\Wildfire\.wf?

Also clear the browser cache as well?

Well, I think we will just wait for a Windchill 10.2 upgrade.

Attribute columns show up in my work spaces. How can I have them show up in the parts catalog (common space)?

Attributes such as user defined parameters show up in columns in my work spaces. However, they do not show up in the parts catalog (common space).

It is not a "display" issue. They don't even show up in the column list in the parts catalog (common space)

We are running Windchill PDM Essentials 10.2 M030.

I can't think of a reason why it appears on Workspace view and not on common space. Ensure that you have the right object type (CAD Document, if you don't have a soft type)

diplay.jpg

One another way to verify it is by going to advanced search, select CAD document, In the criteria, go to more and see whether the attribute which have created appears there.

This helped a lot.

Did not realize that the custom view set up was accessed through the folder contents drop down.

The default view of the parts catalog for CAD Documents only had a few columns shown. However, the workspace had all of them.

I decided to create a custom view with the admin account and share to all users called CAD Documents with Attributes.

Also you suggestion for the advanced search would work as well. The attributes are available there to search.

Many Thanks!

Changing policy rules

Hi erverybody,

I´m trying to understand the windchill access rules. So far the help tells me there are ad-hoc rules and policy rules.

Following the help I wanted to set a ad-hoc rule - but the tab for access controll in the lifecycle diagram is grey (see picture below - access control in german "Zugriffssteuerung"). I tried with organisation admin and site admin (but as site admin I don´t see the correct lifecycle).

How can I "ungrey" these tabs?

Thanks in advance.

Best regards,

Benjamin

How to force comments during "Check In" to PTC Windchill (Essentials)?

Hi there,

how can I force my engineers to use the comment field during check in process in Windchill?

Is there a way like (if comments.length() =0 then error)? My first thought was to use modelcheck, but I guess this works only on the Creo side.

Any suggestions?

Hi Benjamin,

to enable "Access Control" /  "Zugriffssteuerung" You have to change life cycle type from "basic" to "advanced".

To do that, deselect the current life cycle phase by clicking on the white area besides the different phases (e.g. click on "Klicken Sie hier, um die Eigenschaften des Lebenszyklus anzuzeigen").

After activating "advanced" mode, you are good to modify everything you need.

Custom Attribute on Document "References Documents" link

$

Hi all,

Using Windchill PDMLink 10.2.

I have, in the past added custom attributes for EPMDocument usage links directly in the Type and Attribute Management , navigating to the EPMDDocument .

Also, custom attributes in Part Usage link.

But, here I want to add custom attribute in the link "References Document", however there is no Object Type like this (Similar to EPmDocument Usage Link or Part Usage Link).

There is only Document Uses link, but this is meant for the Document Structure Tab and not for the References Document in the Related Objects tab.

If there is no object type for this link, then only way is to study what is going into that link through the JCA debug or look at the Document tables in DB..

Is ther any way out?

Thanks & Regards

Hari

Hi

in Type Manager you've got the "Part reference" (wt.part.WTPartReferenceLink)

which is the WTpart to Document master link.

If I remember , I've an idea for that, ... cause the OOTB links Reference or Describe links, even if in Type manager, do not show the IBAs in UI .... at least in 10.0.  may be now it's OK in 10.2

A Doc to Doc reference link does not exists in Windchill data model.

Classification in 10.2M030 upgraded from 10.1M040 - Is there a way to delete attributes from parent node which were not used in child nodes before Upgrade?

$

Upgrading from 10.1M040 to 10.2M030

Before Upgrade - Parent classification node has 3 attributes (a,b,c) and child node has 2 attributes (a,b)

After Upgrade - Both Parent and child classification node has all 3 attributes because in 10.2, attributes from Parent node is inherited by child node.

We are looking for 1) a data analysis tool which can identify such cases in the source (10.1M040) system and 2) a data cleanup tool to fix it at source or target.

Has anyone come across this scenario? We have nearly 1000 nodes which are affected (result of a messy CPJ created by resources who had no idea what they were doing....)

the solution there (class="required") does not seem to work for PDM Essentials 10.2

Hi Benjamin,

As suggested by Matthias, changing the type to advance should enable to buttons. One quick note, any new policies defined from Lifecycle (ad-hoc), will not be applicable to the existing objects created using the same lifecycle template. This will be applicable to new objects or you will have to re-assign the lifecycle to use the latest version of the same template.

Bhushan
