Re: Rehost Info*Engine Adapter Setting

Tom,

Yes I saw the same thing.  It just gets confusing when they expect the target server name for everything else that is named target.  It seems that should have been named source.  Everything seemed to change correctly.  However I still cannot login via our corporate LDAP.

Is there a way to disable a Manufacturing View from being selected?

We have a number of historical manufacturing plants views that are no longer valid in one of our Windchill systems.  As we migrate data into a new Windchill system, we need to retain the plant view information for history but do not want the plant views to be available for selection.  Is there a way to do this?  In other words, how do you disable a View?

Hi Ben,

In type & attribute manager, add an attribute to the CAD type as normal. Once added (and still in edit mode) select the newly added attribute and in the top-right window, search for the application you want to connect with (in this case Autodesk Inventor). In the field next to the application's label, enter the name of the attribute as defined in the application.

After a "save" and "done you're set to go

Efficient way to add large numbers of affected objects to change requests?

$

I have an excel spreadsheet of a little over 2000 objects that need to be added to the affected objects table of a change request. Does anyone know of a way to do this that doesn't involve searching for and adding 2000 individual items? Is there some way to "mass add" part numbers, maybe by copy/pasting them from somewhere? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

is there an existing infoengine call that can give me the information about a user if I know: wt.org.WTUser:72628?

Is there an existing call that can give me the information about a user if I know: wt.org.WTUser:72628?

Can you point me how to get do this via IE if multiple calls may be needed?

Jan,

I got that part.  I was a little more curious of an example attribute - the syntax specifically.  For example, is a value such as "iProperties.mass" appropriate?  Or maybe just "mass"?  I'm not sure.

Thanks!

Add document as reference from different product/library

Ok, so we want to add a document as a reference document to a wtPart.  The search window comes up and I enter in the search tr* and it does not show anything.  The wtPart is in a product and the document is in a library.  How do I do that?  The user can see both the wtPart and the document.  We are on Windchill 10.2.

Brian,

It should not be a problem provided the user has modify permission on the wtPart.  Check your search filters, and it is possible that if the document is new it may not have been indexed yet, so search for it by name or number rather than keyword.

Jordan,

Depending on your requirement, use * wildcard character or not (or perhaps ? wildcard character).

  1. Click on the green + button to open the "Find Affected Objects" screen.
  2. Enter a string in the Number field that includes the part numbers separated by a semi-colon (;).
    1. For example:  ITEM1*;ITEM2*;ITEM3.
    2. FYI...I think the character limit for this type of thing is 1000 characters.  So watch out or it will get truncated and you won't get all 2000 objects.

Must you use I*E?  Why not database query?

Making the assumption that 72628 is the IDA2A2 value, then something like:

select * from wtuser where ida2a2=72628

Keep in mind that there is a lot of information stored in the LDAP instead of the database.  So maybe that is why you want to use I*E instead of database query?

Thanks, I tried that but the only thing my part numbers had in common was their length, which they also shared with a lot of objects that didn't need to be added. I ended up using the following procedure:

save excel list as text file (space delimited) -> copy groups of space-seperated part numbers into "Keyword" field of Advanced Search with "Find: with any of these criteria" set -> select objects from search results -> paste into Affected Objects.

Unfortunately, this limited me to adding about 100 objects at a time, thus getting through one list required doing this twenty times. So I am still looking for a more efficient way if anyone knows of one.

Thanks again for the suggestion.

Cache went corrupt now windchill will not connect with inventor?

$

Hi All,

Our company has been using Windchill with Autodesk Inventor. We seem to be having a lot of cache's go corrupt. When I was synchronizing my workspace today, Windchill crashed and wouldn't open back up. If you watched the windchill work group manager in the task manager, it opened and closed in <10 seconds. This is a sign of a corrupt workspace so I went ahead and renamed my cache to allow windchill to rebuild a new cache. Now when i go to open Windchill, it wont connect to inventor. It is giving me an error that says "CAD adapter DLL load failed:". Does anyone know what might be causing this and what I can do to avoid corrupt caches in the future?

Not sure if this helps, but check it out.

Check for "Carrying Forward Content Links When Revising CAD Documents Only" enhancement in 10.2 M20.

Carrying Forward Content Links When Revising CAD Documents Only

Product: All PTC Windchill Solutions

Support Release: 10.2 M020

Functional Area: Product Structures, BOMs, and Configurations

Summary:

In PTC Windchill 10.2 M020, a new server-side preference was introduced:Revise ▶ Carry Forward Content Association for CAD Document Revise. When revising

only the CAD document, the system can be configured to carry forward existing Content associations. By default the value of this preference is set to “No” and

when you revise only the CAD document, the existing part version are not associated to the new CAD document version. This ensures that released part

versions do not have any change in content without an iteration or revise of the part.

Benefits and Description:

This allows making simple updates to the CAD document, without requiring the revision of the associated part. When your company allows released parts to be

associated to not-released CAD documents, you can change the value of this preference to “Yes” and the latest version of the part will be associated to the new

version of the CAD document after revise.

For more information, see the “Creating a New Revision” topic in the PTC

Windchill Help Center.

Re: check if EPMDoc has owner link to WTPart using API

Simon,

It doesn't look like the APIs used for association are officially supported for customization. Because of that, anything you try is not guaranteed to work and cannot be supported by PTC tech support. With that said, I found this incomplete code snippet that may be helpful. I've not tested it out so, again, no guarantees....

//Get WTPart instance associated with EPMDocument

WTPart part=...;

//Get EPMDocument instance associated with WTPart
EPMDocument epm=...;

AssociationType assoctype = null;
String association = null;
WTArrayList epmDocArray = new WTArrayList();
epmDocArray.add((EPMDocument) epm);
ResultGraph assocResultGraph = AutoAssociateHelper.getAssociatedResultGraph(epmDocArray, true);
Map datum = AutoAssociateHelper.getAssociatedLinkToObjectsMap(assocResultGraph, epmDocArray,false);
Iterator iterator = datum.keySet().iterator();
while (iterator.hasNext()) {
     Object key = iterator.next();
     Object obj = datum.get(key);
     if (key instanceof BinaryLink && obj.equals(part)) {
          BinaryLink bLink = (BinaryLink) key;
          assoctype = AssociationType.getAssociationType(bLink);
          if assoctype.equals(AssociationType.ACTIVE) {
               <DO WHAT YOU NEED TO DO>
          }
     }
}
Good luck!

Re: Feasibility for managing Software code

Its better to leave the managing of the SW code to ALM world, let the SW get created, managed there. ALM tools like MKS has got capabilities to Integrated IDE environment, manage iterations, track issues and generate right builds.

The final build can be downloaded (or linked/pushed) to WC, can be represented as Software Part/Document and get released in standard process in PLM tools.

Can Cognos (Business Reporting) DB be installed on same SQL server as PDMLink DB? .

PTC Tech Support literature seems to give conflicting info.  Since databases can have different collations so literature seems to suggest it is possible.

revise in workflow

Does anybody know an expression that would just revise the business objects?  I've already figured out how to make it revise once the object is promoted however it causes some issues due to my company's lifecycle.  Again, I'm just looking for an expression that would revise the objects without needing to promote them.

Thanks.
